O'Meara, an active cyclist before the accident, said she debated cycling again. On Wednesday, riding a loaned bicycle, she said she felt safe surrounded by friends and the policeescort.

Members of the Santa Barbara based B4T9 Women's Cycling Team rode in honor of Suzanne Rivera, a 47 year Nike Air Max 90 Shoes old Bakersfield mother of two who died May 13 in the Mariposa Women's Stage Race. Rivera had begun cycling nine months earlier, and according to news reports, died when she ran into a supportvehicle.
The ride took a slow pace through an 11 1/2 mile route of Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village streets. O'Meara told the group before the ride that some people might be frustrated that the cyclists are holding uptraffic.

they were hit by cars. Others wore black ribbons, indicating they knew someone who was hitorkilled.
"The police did a marvelous job of both controlling the peloton (group) and controlling the traffic," hesaid.
Simmons said he appreciated the strong support from both the city andpolice.
O'Meara said she was hit by a car when the driver didn't see her in the intersection while she was biking in Moorpark in September 2010. She was knocked off her bike and her helmet broke the carwindshield.
While this year's turnout was down slightly, Simmons said the ride was successful in demonstrating a cycling slogan he likes to share: "Same road, same rules, samerights."
O'Meara, 51, of Moorpark, shared her story with about 200 other cyclists who gathered on the lawn of The Lakes shopping center in Thousand Oaks for the Ride of Silence, a memorial ride honoring people killed while biking. More than 250 similar rides took place worldwide, including elsewhere in Ventura County, on Wednesday to remind motorists and cyclists to sharetheroad.
"This isn't a race; this is a procession," hesaid.
In a bright yellow cycling jersey and with a red ribbon tied around her arm, Debbie O'Meara prepared for her first ride since an accident broke her neckandaleg.
"Cycling is a beautiful sport that on rare occasions extracts a very heavy toll," Burgeron read. "There were perhaps 15 different teams racing this weekend, but we all became one team afterthenews."
"Next time, with a little bit more awareness, maybe (the driver) will see the rider in theintersection."
County Supervisor Linda Parks told the group she was amazed to see the redbands.
"Your brain sees what it expects to see. . (The driver) didn't expect to see me in the middle of the intersection," O'Meara said. Air Max 90 Black Cement
Parks added that she would like eastern Ventura County to have separated bike paths like those found inOjai. Simmons reminded the cyclists of some rules and gave apeptalk.
"We can do everything we can to be safe, but when it comes down to it, some things you can't avoid," shesaid.
