CV joints to diagnose knocking noise
QUESTION: I have a sort of knocking noise that seems to come from the front left side of my Honda Accord. It has 150,000 miles on it. The noise sounds like an unbalanced wheel. All of the tires were balanced at least twice since I first heard the noise.
ANSWER: There are several possible causes for the noise you are hearing. Let's start with the Nike Air Max 90 Essential Buy Online tires. Tread cupping or irregular wear can cause a repetitive flapping sound that varies with road speed. Cupping is usually the result of worn shock absorbers (struts in your case) and irregular wear is more common with all season tires or those having diagonal tread grooves. Rotating the tires usually causes a change in the sound for better or worse indicating one or more tires may be the culprit.
Another possibility is a worn wheel bearing. These often cause a growling sound that changes slightly as the vehicle turns right or left. Should the bearing become sufficiently loose, the ABS tone ring (a toothed iron ring resembling a gear on the back side of the brake rotor) may begin striking the wheel speed sensor, causing a knocking sound. A moderate to badly worn bearing can be easily verified by grabbing/rocking the tire/wheel while elevated. Again, a tiny amount of clearance at most is all that should be found. If you find a loose wheel bearing, it should be renewed right away.
The boots are not broken. I recently added grease to each with a special needle attachment, but that did not make any difference. Can it be that a wheel bearing has a nick on it? I placed the front end on a stand and placed the car in drive to spin the wheels and I don't hear the sound.
axle rotated to several differing positions. You should feel no more than almost imperceptible looseness. Next move to the inner joints and check them for looseness as the axle is rotated to several positions. A slightly to moderately worn joint need not be fixed right way. A remanufactured axle assembly is the best cure and is surprisingly affordable.
A worn CV (constant velocity) joint is the next thing I'd check. Front wheel drive vehicles have a flexible joint at the inner and outer end of each Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse Neon Pink

Checking for worn CV joints is fairly easy with the vehicle safely elevated. Place the ignition key in the first position (steering column unlocked but ignition not on). Try grabbing each axle near the outer joint and shake/wiggle it, checking for looseness in the outer joint. Do this with the wheels pointing straight, then turned with the Nike Air Max Denim Shoes
drive axle. The outer joints are designed to bend sharply as the vehicle turns, and the inner joints allow the axle to change length and bend slightly as bumps are encountered. CV joints are packed with grease and sealed with a flexible rubber boot. It's important the boot does not become split or broken, as grease will escape and dirt will enter, resulting in rapid wear. A worn outer CV joint typically makes a clicking or knocking noise while turning, and perhaps under acceleration. Worn inner joints are less common, and may make similar noises during acceleration. Adding grease should not be necessary if the boots are in good condition.
