TRIBUTES have continued to flow in for Billy Hughes, the amateur cricketer who collapsed and died during his team's first game of the season last Saturday.

His funeral was due to take place at Sacred Heart RC Church, Kingsway, yesterday (Tues) morning. A short prayer service was also held at Mr Hughes' home the day he died.

June and Tony Howard of Milnrow, former neighbours of Mr Hughes and his family, were also devastated by his sudden death.
Mr Hughes, who was married to Susan, lived in Eafield Avenue, Milnrow. He had a son Mark, aged 22 and a 15 year old daughter, Samantha.
David Lawrence, principal of North Trafford College, where Mr Hughes was a lecturer in motor mechanics, said: "Billy Hughes brought knowledge and guardianship to all the students he tutored.
Milnrow butcher Lee Brook, who played with Mr Hughes at Robinson's, said: "His death has stunned the village.

The 56 year old was playing for Robinson's in a North Manchester League first division game at Blackley when the tragedy happened.

Mrs Howard said "When we first moved into Milnrow in 1980, Billy was the first person to come and welcome us.
