"When a young person applies, we put them through a rigorous assessment centre, a bit like a boot camp where they will go through several assessments, but if they get though boot camp we then know they are an engaged young person and we can put them forward for an apprenticeship.
"I started as an apprentice at the age of 19 because I didn't want to go to university and really wanted to start work and get ahead, and from my own experiences I believe that, with the right training and development, we can really turn around the lives of young people."
It was that early experience which has spearheaded her drive to help young people in Greater Manchester into jobs, and she has already placed 130 young people with employers since setting up The Apprentice Academy last year.
The Apprentice Academy is part of The Phoenix Way Group, a 1m turnover company based on Oxford Street, Manchester, which was set up in 2001 and specialises in leadership, management and employee engagement training and consultancy.
She said: "Being an apprentice is not just about placing a young person with an employer, it's about developing their skills, from shaking someone's hand to being relaxed in a new environment.

She added: "We have several ways we engage with young people. We speak with schools, colleges, we work with Connexions and just recently we started using Facebook and Bebo.
"I have an eight year old daughter and I'm there to pick her up from school in the afternoon and spend the evenings with her.
"But there was no training, no coaching and no inspiration for young people.

"What we are doing here is creating our future leaders. Before setting up the Academy we were actually working with training providers who were involved in offering apprenticeships.
The Academy was set up last year by Air Max 90 Premium Pink Daniele and is run by a team of 20, including four apprentices who came through its own training programme.
Daniele, who even applied to the hit TV series The Apprentice, getting through to the initial stages before deciding not to go ahead with it due to being away from her daughter for 13 weeks, said she's always had a passion for training young people.
In 2007, she joined The Phoenix Way Group as business performance director before becoming group director last year. She said: "I've had an amazing experience in my time at Phoenix, with my greatest achievement of setting up the Academy. There are so many young people out there that I believe we can help, not only to gain employment but also help become strong confident young adults.
"We work with employers as an alternative to recruitment. If an employers has a vacancy for 14,000 or under, we will work with them to create a role for a young person. Not only is the employer saving costs but being socially responsible at the same time. This is a cost reduction with a feel good factor," she added.
Daniele, who was born in the UK but raised in France, started working life in management at the Butler Group where she remained for three years before moving on to hotel and property investment company Alpha Group, also in France.
One woman who can understand what it's like to be a young apprentice is Daniele Palacios. The group director of The Phoenix Way Group and The Apprentice Academy started her career at the age of 19 as an apprentice at hospitality company the Butler Group in France, where she grew up.

For many, it could mean that taking on an apprenticeship will become a much more viable option.
"The apprentice will also develop their skills at our centre of excellence and we prepare them for presentations to prospective employees in a coaching format.
"What has also been important to me is being able to balance a good working life and making time for my family.
"So we decided to create our own academy where, over 12 months, a young person is provided with training and communication skills needed to give them a really good experience so that in the future they will actually become good employees.

"At the Phoenix Way Group, 80 per cent of our staff are part timers. Some have chosen this because they want to spend more time with their families but others want to pursue a hobby or interest. One of our colleagues finishes at the office and then is a volunteer dog walker. Balancing a working life with your own personal family life is definitely the key to being happy."
As well as studying business at Stockport College, Daniele took up a senior manager's position at The Post House hotel chain, where she was headhunted by marketing and PR agency, Smart. After another three years she decided to leave and invest in a consultancy business, CMS where she became a director.
"We want to get our work right in this region first before rolling it out on a national basis. We have been invited by big employers in Leeds, Birmingham and Milton Keynes, but we want to get it right in Manchester first."
develop their core skills so that they can get the best out of what they do, and hence the employers end up with a great employee.
Daniele's spearheading apprenticeship drive
So far 200 companies in Greater Manchester have pledged to take on an apprentice and Daniele hopes the Academy will generate at least 250 jobs for young people over the next 12 months.
Daniele said: "I don't mean to criticise anyone who has a degree, but for those who do, sometimes they don't even use it, whereas those who start an apprenticeship are creating a career for themselves.
This news couldn't have come at a better time for young people, as proposals have been announced to scrap the annual cap on university charges, leaving students facing tuition fees of up to 12,000 a year.
"With the current situation, we envisage more youngsters taking their route to employment through this way.
