Born in the Philippines, Mitchell enlisted in the Marines after high school, met his future wife, April, in 1986, married her six months later, started raising a family and began his automobile sales career in the early 1990s.
Mitchell, 46, has become a creature of habit out of necessity.
Producer/director Tom Odar, 42, also from Simi Valley, is negotiating to get the documentary broadcast on television and hopes to turn it into a reality series starring Mitchell.
Though Mitchell doesn remember how the April 6, 2003 fall occurred at the family Quartz Hill home, the best guess is that he tripped over one of his dogs, plummeting down 17 steps, slamming his head and winding up unconscious at the bottom of the stairwell.

High risk surgery following the spill left Mitchell severely brain damaged, unable to walk or talk, almost completely blind in his left eye and with short term memory problems that had him failing to recognize his wife and kids.

The former Marine disabilities resulted in him losing his high paying management job at several car dealerships in Lancaster. And with no money coming in, the family in turn lost its home in nearby Quartz Hill. They have since returned to Simi Valley, where Mitchell was raised.
Mitchell was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, where he spent several days comatose under observation. Upon waking up, he was released, Odar said.
He was rushed back to UCLA where doctors determined he had bleeding on the brain due in part to his jaw being fractured in the fall. They in turn referred him to a specialist at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster.
After being given his last rites by a priest, Mitchell underwent high risk surgery that involved cutting into his skull to relieve the pressure on his brain. During the six hour operation, part of his skull was removed and stored in his stomach. It was restored to his head in subsequent surgery.
Mitchell said his nightmarish tribulation and eventual recovery made him more determined than ever to use his hard won knowledge in the service of others.

At the gym, he helps other brain damaged people, determined to give back some of the caring he received during his bleakest hours.
Though he made great rehabilitation strides since then with the love and support of his family, regaining his abilities to walk and talk, he still has memory problems and difficulty speaking at times.
