"They fed me, helped me do my washing," he said. "I had access to mental health workers and the nurse whenever I needed it. I got back on my feet and I've kept out of crime for two years.
"If we don't come here, where can we go? The staff here have looked after every one of us. They've got us to where we want to be."

Today, he helps out as a volunteer. He said Emmanuel House kept him straight and gave him hope when he most needed it.
The council has announced it is withdrawing from the end of March. This comes from its mental health grant, homelessness fund and voluntary sector improvement programme. But the charity also fears it will lose a further from the council's supporting people programme. A decision on that has not yet been taken.
While Emmanuel House helped some, like Ian, to make a fresh start, for others it is a place to go back to when everything falls apart.
