Dr. Stuart Platt, inspector general of the Texas Department of Public Safety, will bring more than 30 years of professional experience in law and criminal justice to ACU when he joins the university's Department of Political Science in Fall 2013.

"It is rare for any university to gain someone with such real world experience from the top level of law enforcement in Texas," says Dr. Gregory Straughn, dean of ACU's College of Arts and Sciences. "Dr. Platt could have decided to teach at any university in the nation, but he's coming to ACU's growing criminal justice program."
Platt brings wide experience as an instructor of constitutional issues and police procedures. He taught in the DPS Training Academy from 2009 13, leading courses such as Search and Seizure, and Ethical Decision Making in Professional Policing. He taught continuing education courses for the State Bar of Texas on search and seizure and federal practice 1996 09, and has served as a guest instructor at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., and the Texas Tech University School of Law. He has been an adjunct instructor at Stephen F. Austin University, teaching criminal law and criminal procedure.
